Schools Back Open Again After One-Day Strike

Schools across our region are all open again… the day after a one-day strike by high school teachers and support workers shut down several of them.

J.P. Desilets (DEZ-ih-leh) is district president of the high school teachers union between Moosonee, Hearst and New Liskeard.

He has a very clear message for Premier Doug Ford and education minister Stephen Lecce (LETCH-ay).

“It can’t be about the bottom line,” Desilets said.  “This is about people at the end of the day.  And people is the working conditions for the education workers here and it’s also the quality of education that parents should be expecting for their kids.”

Desilets apologizes for making families of elementary students collateral damage by forcing cancelled classes… but says the strike is a move that had to be made.
