Donations policy and ice rentals could be change in Kapuskasing

There may be changes on the way your organization or sports team gets assistance from the Town of Kapuskasing. Councillors decided to look at their donations policy during their meeting earlier this week. That revisit of the policy will include how the town rents ice time at the Sports Palace to the Auditorium at the Civic Centre. Each meeting Town Council receives as many as five donation requests and or reduced rates for the Civic Centre or the Sports Palace.  Mayor Dave Plourde says the town needs to be more helpful to some of these organizations that are bringing events instead of try to cut costs.

“Savings are made with nickels, dimes and pennies, but I think these are activities that we can easily help as a partner,” he said. “It gives us something to do on Friday or Saturday night.”

Councillor Sebastian Lessard says they are willing to help organizations by setting a fixed rate for their facilities.

“We are open to helping them organize tournaments, events or festivals,” he said. “We would be willing to offer our facilities at a fixed rate, if they are doing their part to bring in people to our community and show off what we have.”
