Economic Development open house discusses new immigrants helping to fill jobs

Business owners are invited to a special open house on Wednesday. It’s being organized by the Economic Development Society of Ontario and it will take place in Kapuskasing at the Welcome Centre from 5 to 7 pm. Economic Development Officer Melanie Breton says she hopes the open house will help those understand how the new immigration population can fill the shortage of jobs and workers from Temiskaming Shores to Hearst.

“We do not have the current capacity to fill those jobs with the current people we have in the region, so that’s why we are asking employers to consider these potential people as employees,” she said. “It’s in all fields from PSW, to a truck driver, welder, retail and janitorial staff just to name a few.”

Breton hopes this type of event will encourage employers more to hire new immigrants.

“Just a small group of people to attend this event will help increase awareness and take away the stigma of hiring new people in our region,”she said.

The open house consists of a variety of different presentation including the history of immigration in our region.
