Two more weeks! That appears to be the time frame of when we will know what the cost will be of a new swimming pool for Kapuskasing. Town staff have been working on the provincial grant application and Mayor Dave Plourde says a final number could be available by the next Council meeting.
“If council feels the cost is too high and if it’s something we can’t afford, then we will have to decide at that time and make changes,” he said. “We have all the asks and wants in place right now.”
Plourde praised the town staff for working non-stop to get the application near the finish line. He adds that several months ago it was uncertain whether they could get things done before the November deadline. The grant that the Town of Kapuskasing is seeking could cover as much as 73 per cent of the construction costs. The proposed new pool could be built across the street from the Sports Palace.
