Health Unit To Offer Flu Shots Next Month

Have you ever thought about getting a flu shot? The Porcupine Health Unit will begin offering Flu Shots starting next month. Flu Shots are recommended for high risk groups like those with conic health conditions, as well as at risk people like those who are pregnant and or living in a nursing home. Public Health Nurse Amy Ouimette says the facts of flu shots outweigh the myths.

“Most common reaction is soreness in the muscle or redness where you received your shot,” she said. “You can’t get the flu from the flu shot. It doesn’t protect you from a stomach bug, but it will prevent you from getting influenza.”

Flu shots are available at the Porcupine Health Unit Offices on Tuesday and Thursdays in November either by booking an appointment or just walking in. There will also be Flu Clinics in Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Moonbeam and Val Rita. You can also get a Flu Shot from your physician or at your pharmacy.

Clinics will be held in Kapuskasing on Saturday, Nov.9; Opasatika Wednesday, Nov. 6 in the library from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm; Moonbeam on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Community Centre from5 pm to 6 pm. and Val Rita-Harty on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
