There is certainly plenty of excitement and anticipation about a new swimming pool for Kapuskasing. However, it is still unclear what a new pool would cost to be built. Town Administrator Guylain Baril says they won’t have a clear indication of an accurate number for at least a couple of more weeks.

“We know it will be more than the last time,” he said. “It was $8.5 million before and we know for sure it will be higher than that. We are aiming for a pool similar to what Kirkland Lake built and they finished their a year ago. Theirs cost $15.5 million.”

Baril says they hope to hear news from the Provincial Government over the grant application by the spring.

“We are likely starting at 2021 start of construction,” he said. “There is a whole year of planning with construction design and companies chosen.”

The Town of Kapuskasing will begin to fill out the application this week for the provincial government grant. There is just over a month to submit that application that could get them as much as 73.3 per cent of the construction costs covered.
