Door to door visits begin next week for Kap Firefighters

You may be getting a visit from the Kapuskasing Fire Department next week. Tuesday is the start of the Department’s Residential visitation program as part of National Fire Prevention Week. Fire Chief Pat Kennedy says there are several things to expect when a firefighter is at your door.

“The firefighters are reviewing the locations of your smoke alarms and making sure they have not expired,” he said. “They will also be talking about an escape plan for you and your family from your home. The firefighters just want to give residents tools for any type of fire situation.”

When a firefighter inspects your house and your are not compliant, Kennedy says they will be loaned a fire alarms for a few days until they can go out and purchase them. The Firefighters will do a follow up visit and pick up the loaner alarms. Fines will only be given to those who don’t comply after the follow-up visit.

If you are not home when the firefighters come to your house, they will leave information on how to contact them.
