Golden Age Centre Marks 50th

There is a very special birthday party Friday taking place at the Kapuskasing Civic Centre. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Kapuskasing Golden Age Centre and about 150 people are expected for the dinner and dance. President Madeline Paquette says they are proud to celebrate this special occasion.

“To celebrate 50 years and to be alive as we are is pretty special,” she said. “We currently have 300 members and that’s really good.”

Paquette says the Golden Age Centre has certainly come a long way since it’s beginning.

“At that time, the Centre was a club,” she said. “It turned out to be a centre later to give services to other organizations. It was created so that people who retired from the Mill would have some place to go.”

One of the memories that Paquette has is of the many trips the members took.

“At a certain age seniors don’t want to drive anymore, so these trips where they can all get on a bus and go away from their families is pretty special and they really like,” she said.
