If you have been thinking about policing as a profession, one way to start might be helping out as an OPP Auxiliary Member. Acting Sergeant Shona Camirand Northeast Region Media Coordinator says they are always taking applications for auxiliary officers to help with the James Bay and South Porcupine Detachments in our region.
“As an auxiliary member they can develop some good contacts with the officers and do things such as ride-a-longs,” she said. “It allows the officers to get to know them.”
Camirand says they help with a variety of functions.
“Auxiliary Officers get to patrol, do set belt clinics, RIDE Program Initiatives, attend presentations, help with traffic control, and attend community events,” she said. “There are many duties that we use the auxiliary officers for that really help us out.”
Camirand says that the application process requires people to go through a criminal back ground check, and have a valid drivers license, and a high school diploma.
