Healthy Aging Expo For Seniors Takes Place Next Month

A special event for seniors is set for next month. It’s the health aging expo put on by the Porcupine Health Unit at the Centre De Loisirs on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Expo is for seniors 55 and over and will consist of several government agencies who will be together under one room to answer questions seniors may have regarding products and services. Registered Nurse Janelle Martin-Edwards says this type of event is helpful to seniors.

“They will be able to see what is offered to them in the community,” Martin-Edwards said. “There will also be a free flu clinic during the event too and even a bingo. It’s something nice for them to get together.”

Martin-Edwards says that some seniors don’t know what’s offered in the community.

“It’s great because all of these agencies will be together under one roof for them,” she said.

This event begins with a light lunch from noon to 1 pm at a nominal cost followed by the expo from 1 to 5 pm. The Expo is free to seniors and they don’t have to pre-register. Martin-Edwards says Kapuskasing and the north is lucky to have so many agencies in our community but many seniors and elderly don’t know that they are here.
