Kapuskasing Fire Department Going Door-To-Door

Kapuskasing residents may be getting a knock on their doors next month from firefighters. Kapuskasing Fire Chief Pat Kennedy they are finalizing a plan to have firefighters speak to residents door-to-door about fire safety in their homes.

“Some of the people are not aware of all of the things when it comes to fire safety,” Fire Chief Kennedy said. “So that’s why we are going to have the firefighters go door-to-door to answer any questions people may have and make sure their home are safe.”

Kennedy says it is recommended that everyone to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month, and that people have an escape plan for their home in case fire breaks out.

“There are special alarms that detect natural gas, the carbon monoxide ones won’t,” he said. “If residents spend a bit more money they can get one that detects propane, natural gas and carbon monoxide.”
