Public School Enrollment Down in Kapuskasing Arena

While some schools in the area will get back to the books tomorrow, others schools like those public schools from District School Board One Ontario Northeast will go back on the Wednesday after Labor Day. Chairman Bob Brush says enrollment numbers have leveled off across the district.

“We welcome all students for the upcoming school year,” said Brush. “Our numbers have plateaued a bit, and it would have been super nice to be able to see an increase in students but that will not be the case.”

Brush says that isn’t the case for figures in the Hearst, Kapuskasing and Smooth Rock Falls area.s

“It won’t have a serious impact of the operation of those schools,” he said. “From the numbers that I have from October of 2018, we will see a drop in about 35 students across that district.”

Brush says they are excited about the school year and thank their support staff for getting the facilities ready during the summer.
