The board that investigates aircraft crashes and accidents released its report about an accident last March that claimed the life of a Kapuskasing couple.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said that flight crews flew over the area West of The Timmins Airport eight times before locating the helicopter. Jody and Nicole Blais were killed in that crash. The Safety board said the Emergency locator transmitter was turned off, but they couldn’t determine who had re-installed it, after it had been taken out for recertification.
The report also stated that the pilot had not done enough required night take-offs and landings to have a passenger on board at night. The Pilot had flown 157 hours in the previous year with 4.3 hours flown at night, but no night takeoffs. The report says that to fly with a passenger at night they are required to complete five night takeoffs and five night landings.
