Firearms and hunter safety courses cover an entire weekend

You want to go hunting this fall, but you don’t have firearms or hunter safety training.

That’s where Steve Lemieux comes in.  The Timmins man teaches both courses every weekend… in one community or another in the region.

He says about the only requirement is that you need to be at least 12 years old.

“At the end of the course, you have to pass a written exam and a practical exam on the firearms part,” Lemieux remarks. “On the hunter education, you only have to do a written test at the end of the course.”

Lemieux usually teaches he courses in Timmins two weekends a month.  The other weekends can find him in any community in the districts of Cochrane and Timiskaming.

“The firearms course, we usually do it the Friday evening starting at 6 until 10pm and the Saturday from eight to two  o’clock,” he says. “The hunter education is the Sunday from 8am until about 6pm.”

Once you pass the test for each course, you apply to the RCMP for your firearms licence, and buy your hunting licence at Service Ontario.
