First of its kind beer festival coming to Kapuskasing in September

Because there are no microbreweries in Kapuskasing, residents of the Model Town might not be familiar with craft beer.

A two-day festival September 13th and 14th will take care of that.

It’s being put on by Centre de Loisirs under a tent in its parking lot.

Executive director Jimmy Coté says “Festibiere” is the first in the region.

“Beer festivals are getting popular everywhere in the province, even the country,” he remarks.  “So we figured this would be a great way to introduce the people of Kapuskasing to microbreweries.”

Although Kap has no microbreweries of its own, those featured at the festival do have some local flavour.

“There’s two microbreweries, one from Ottawa, one from Temiskaming Shores, their owners are originally from Kapuskasing. So for them, they’re coming home for the weekend.”

On Friday night, there will be a dinner featuring entirely locally produced food.

Tickets are available on the Centre de Loisirs website.
