Don’t overstay your welcome camping on Crown land

When you find an ideal camping spot – especially if it doesn’t cost any money – you hate to give it up.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reminding everyone that on Crown land, you’re limited to 21 days in one spot – that’s three weeks.

Enforcement manager Rick LeBlanc says people waiting to use that same spot often call the ministry.

“Officers are also out there,” he adds.  “They know these sites and they’ll pay attention to them and we have our own investigative techniques for determining whether people are overstaying their welcome.”

LeBlanc draws a comparison and a contrast to the provincial parks.

“Provincial parks have a limitation on the number of days you can stay as well.  The difference here: this is free camping and we understand the price of gas is certainly elevated right now.  It’s just an economics thing.  Our point is, this is a respect thing.”

LeBlanc says that respect is towards the site and the people who also want their turn at using something that you own jointly with them.
