Lock it or lose it: OPP advice about valuables in your car

Dandelions, pollen, mosquitos and those annoying people who break into your car are all signs of impending summer.

OPP Constable Kyle Perry says there’s an upswing in that type of thievery every year at this time.  In the James Bay detachment cluster it’s especially evident this season in Moosonee.

“The warmer weather tends to bring people with some bad aspirations out so that’s why the OPP is just encouraging people to lock it or lose it,” Perry remarks, adding that says it’s easy to make sure you’re not a victim.

Don’t leave your car unattended while it’s running, lock the doors and roll up the windows when you leave the car, and keep valuables out of sight.

“If someone is interested in stealing your property, they’re going to be looking through your window firs,” Perry says.  “If they see spare change, electronics, a wallet, that’s going to be very enticing for someone.  So that’s the big one, is to keep your valuables out of sight and keep those doors locked.”
