Crash on Highway 17 takes lives of two Kapuskasing residents

Monday night a fatal crash took the lives of three people, including two Kapuskasing seniors.

The OPP Manitoulin Detachment along with Sudbury Emergency Medical Services responded to a head on collision involving two vehicles on Highway 17 on Monday just past 1:30pm.

Police say the vehicle heading westbound was carrying two Kapuskasing residents, the driver 75-year-old Jacques Dandenault and passenger 73-year-old Pierrette Dandenault, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say the driver of the eastbound vehicle 18-year-old Tyler Carter from Walden was also pronounced dead at the scene, but a 44-year-old passenger was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 17 was closed for six hours following the incident in both directions before being re-opened.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators say their investigation is currently ongoing.
