Moose management review taking place today in town

Today you can let your concerns on how the province manages its moose populous be heard.

In Kapuskasing this afternoon Ontario’s Big Game Management Advisory Committee or BGMAC in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, will be hosting its seventh and final listening session that is open to the public.

BGMAC has been hosting the sessions throughout May across Ontario as hunters, members of the public and organizations have been invited to attend these sessions to share perspectives on how to best develop a system moving forward.

Each session is an open house format where visitors have the chance to review information and share their thoughts with committee members as well as the MNRF staff.

The MNRF has made a number of changes in recent years to address concerns ongoing about moose populations, and while some areas have seen improved numbers, others continue to pose challenges within the province that can’t be properly addressed.

Therefore the public’s help is being sought in overcoming these challenges by seeking thoughts on how to best improve the quota setting, the draw and ultimately moose management.

Information collected through a questionnaire at the open house will be combined with input from communication with hunters to help inform their next step and any proposed changes that result from recommendations will be posted on the Environmental Registry for further review and comment.

The session begins at 4:00pm and runs until 8:00pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Kapuskasing today.
