Kashechewan evacuees finally able to head home

Kashechewan residents being housed in Kapuskasing are expected to begin returning home as of today.

General Manager of protective services Pat Kennedy says the first nation community is now able to see the return of its residents to their homes. Therefore as of Monday evening both Cochrane and Timmins had already seen all return flights made of evacuees out of the area.

Kennedy says Kapuskasing beginning today is seeing evacuees flown back to Kashechewan, but the process will or should take up to three days of flights back and forth in order to complete.

In total, Kashechewan residents have spent a total of a month-and-a-half dispersed from their homes.
