KDHS’ STARS and STEP holding activity day for local schools

Those kids at KDHS just don’t stop promoting a positive lifestyle.

The Kapuskasing District High School STARS and STEP classes are at it again says teachers Mrs. Piche-Swain and Mrs. Dagenais, as they have planned a community event for all elementary schools within town regardless of language.

Mrs. Piche-Swain says the STARS and STEP program is inviting all area elementary schools to participate in an event next Wednesday that will promote an active lifestyle, teamwork and positive mental health.

Piche-Swain says the STARS and STEP ‘Weekday Warriors’ are going to be providing a day full of fun for area students to celebrate one another.

“Fun filled day for the rest of the community and the students in the community to show that they are capable and anything is possible, and having activities with communication and teamwork.”

She says their Rudolph Run event from earlier in the school year pushed them to hold another after seeing the effort of these kids.

“How everyone came together and what all of us accomplished as a team and the school coming together, all the fun the kids had, we can say look at these amazing things that can happen when we all come together and we give students in the community a chance to come together as a group.”

Piche-Swain says there will also be a planned drumming session during lunch for students and staff with Natalie Lanthier, as well as Tania Torok of Rockbox CrossFit leading students at a mini Rock Box style completion.

“We really think highly of our community in Kapuskasing as a whole, and I think that these beautiful people in the community offer such amazing services so we kind of wanna showcase their skills and talents.”

She also adds there are inflatable obstacle courses as well as a slide all sponsored by local companies and Bluebird bus lines will be bringing all grades to and from their schools on the day.

Piche-Swain says the day is a great way to celebrate the end of the year and physical health with one another as a whole community. She says the event will involve Kindergarten through Grade 6 students and will be bilingual as well.

The event runs June 5th at KDHS with further details on the day below.
