Could junior hockey be back in I.F. for 2019-2020? “Not at any cost” – Boost our Igloo chairman

Written By: Bob McIntyre

The acting chairman of the “Boost our Igloo” initiative in Iroquois Falls says several junior hockey teams have expressed interest in relocating to the Jus Jordan Arena.

Rick Charlebois can’t say who they are, but does say they’re impressed with the sale of 240 season tickets so far.

The obvious question:  Is it too late to expect a team in the Falls for the upcoming hockey season?

“Things can happen really, really fast,” is Charlebois’s response.  “A lot of our members would love to have junior hockey back in the Jus Jordan for the fall.  But we’re not going to pursue that at any cost. It needs to be done right.  If more time is needed for things to fall into place properly so that we can more ensure the viability and sustainability of a club that comes here, then we will take that time to make it happen.”

The Jus Jordan – the “Igloo” – has been without a junior hockey tenant since 2015, when the Abitibi Eskimos relocated to Timmins and rebranded to the Timmins Rock.
