Three candidates now named for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing

Another party has announced a candidate for a northern riding in the upcoming federal election.

The Liberal party has selected Heather Wilson to once again represent them in the riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing as she had done previously in the 2015 federal election when she placed second behind current NDP MP Carol Hughes.

With this, the riding now has three candidates to run in this year’s election.

Wilson however, will not be officially named the candidate for the Liberal party until a gathering in the town of Spanish on June 1st.

Since the current district became reformed back in 2004 only two representatives have been had for the area. First, Brent St. Denis of the Liberal Party from 2004 through 2008 and since New Democrat Carol Hughes has held the role for three straight terms.

Hughes will once again be running for a fourth term as she made official back in mid-March, and they will be joined by the Conservative representative Dave Williamson who was acclaimed this month in the running for the district.

The federal election is set to take place in late October of this year.
