Evacuees to wait another week before returning home

Evacuees are being told one more week.

According to Kapuskasing general manager of protective services Pat Kennedy, the first nation community is almost ready to see the return of its residents.

Kennedy spoke to MyKapuskasingNow.com saying that beginning tomorrow Cochrane, Timmins and Thunder Bay will begin the repatriation of Kashechewan.

He says any evacuees currently being housed within Kapuskasing will be waiting until between next Tuesday and Thursday to have a return flight home.

Kennedy says Kapuskasing is usually one of the first communities to receive any evacuees as well as always one of the last to send them home. This is due to the fact that Kapuskasing has traditionally housed the most vulnerable of evacuees.

If all goes well, Kennedy says repatriation of Kashechewan with return flights could be completed by the end of next week.
