Parkinson’s patients and their care givers across the Cochrane District are the focus of a daylong education session in Timmins on Tuesday, May 14th.
Sharon Montreuil is the facilitator for a local Parkinson’s support group. She says the day will feature information on forming your own care team and communicating effectively with it; forming your own personal health care team; and the use of medical cannabis.
“And although it hasn’t proven that it does help with Parkinson’s,” says Montreuil, “we do have a presentation on how it can help the elderly.”
Montreuil says a neurologist and movement specialist will also be on hand.
“He will share information on a surgical procedure, deep brain stimulation, which many of our people here have had it and it helps with movement. Parkinson’s is a movement disorder where your brain doesn’t tell your legs to do or your arms to do, so it helps with that.”
