Final flights being made out of Kashechewan into Kapuskasing

15 more evacuees are arriving in Kapuskasing today.

The four final flights are being made today out of Kashechewan First Nation according to Kapuskasing General Manager of Protective Services Pat Kennedy.

Kennedy says this will leave just police and security officers alongside those working on the water and sewage plants within the Kashechewan community.

He says these final four flights will carry the last set of evacuees from the first nation community into Kapuskasing.

As mentioned earlier this week by Kennedy, further ice on the Albany River is expected to breakup this weekend meaning Fort Albany residents could be also making their way into Kapuskasing soon due to evacuation.

With the arrival of these next 15 evacuees Kapuskasing will be housing 529 residents who made their way into town over the past three weeks from Kashechewan First Nation.
