AIRPORT OUTSIDE WORKERS RATIFY CONTRACT

Outside workers at the transportation hub for this part of Northeastern Ontario — the Timmins Victor M. Power Airport- – have ratified a new contract.

The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees hasn’t said what percentage of the 19 workers voted in favour of the latest deal with the City of Timmins, but isn’t letting the city off the hook without another verbal jab.

Regional vice-president Martin Mika  says the city adopted a hardnosed stance that make negotiations practically impossibl, and brought the union to within one hour of striking, a month ago.

He also claims that the management demands for 52 concessions were whittled down to zero; and that his membership will get a pay raise as well as improvements to maternity allowance, shift premiums and life insurance.
