Better Access To Timmins For Snowmobilers

Written By: Bob McIntyre

Next time you take a rip on your snowmobile to Timmins, you’ll have limited access to city streets, to get from the trails to restaurants and hotels.

City council has approved phase 1 of a plan that encompasses everywhere except the old Town of Timmins.  It will be added in a revised phase two.

Locally, Timmins Snowmobile Club president Raymond Corbeil says snowmobilers don’t have to get their machines to the trail system on trailers.

“This is why we started this project and we hope that everybody will abide by the current bylaw.”

The other major consideration is that access to recently built hotels and restaurants that aren’t next to the snowmobile trails.

“These hotels have asked us to try to get the permit so that they could have access,” Corbeil notes.

That potentially means a bigger share of the business from visiting snowmobilers for those establishments.
