UPDATE: Extreme Cold Warning Finally At An End

UPDATE: 11:27am

As of 11:10am this morning Environment Canada says the extreme cold that has gripped the community has come to an end.

The weather agency had said that they expected more milder air moving into the region to do exactly that today.

They also expect further improvement in the weather as the afternoon moves forward.

A week-long extreme wind warning is still ongoing for the local area.

Environment Canada says this morning saw winds between minus 40 and minus 45 through the communities of Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Kapuskasing.

The weather agency says things should improve as the afternoon approaches and milder air moves into the region.

Still, Environment Canada stresses that you dress warmly and in layers that you can remove if you become overheated.

As well, if it is too cold for you outside, the weather agency says it is also far too cold for your pet as well.
