Extreme Cold Continuing For Region Overnight

For the next few days very cold wind chills are expected through the local area.

Environment Canada says extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 50 were felt this morning and will be again tonight in Kapuskasing, Hearst and Smooth Rock Falls.

The weather agency says winds of this magnitude are rare for the region and therefore are extremely dangerous.

Environment Canada says eastern portions of Northern Ontario will likely see a break from the extreme cold wind chills due to an increase in cloud cover during the week, but winds will remain in the minus 30 to minus 40 range in these areas.

The weather agency says extreme cold puts everyone at risk so cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
