Media Officer Stephanie Belec says this is being done for the public’s safety as a trailer that contains dangerous goods is being removed from the scene of a collision.

Belec says Highway 11 will be closed from Highway 631 through to Nipigon, however local traffic will be allowed about a kilometre and a half both east and west of the scene of the collision.

She also says the OPP want to remind motorists to drive carefully and expect delays once the highway is re-opened later tonight.

Highway 11 is closing down from Hornepayne through to Longlac.

A local caller to MyKapuskasingNow.com who wished to remain anonymous says beginning at 11:00am the highway will be closed between the two townships.

The reasoning behind the closure is the removal of two vehicles that are currently stuck in the ditch.

There is no expected timeline for the highway to open back-up at this time.

Further details are being awaited upon from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario and the OPP.
