EXTREME COLD WARNING FOR KAPUSKASING, HEARST AND SMOOTH ROCK FALLS

Written By: Nick Birnie

It is going to be pretty cold tonight.

According to Environment Canada a prolonged period of cold wind chills is expected today.

The weather agency says winds near minus 40 have occurred through this morning over much of Northern Ontario, and will likely do so again later tonight.

Environment Canada says this bitterly cold airmass will remain throughout the weekend.

The agency says the risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

They ask that you dress warmly, and in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. You should also cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
