Youngsters bundled up and got moving in the spirit of the season.
Kapuskasing and District High School hosted their first ever ‘Rudolph Run’ this morning, gathering students from local area elementary schools such as Diamond Jubilee, St. Patrick and Andre-Cary.
Teachers Mrs. Dagenais and Mrs. Piche-Swain says the idea is new, but will certainly be returning based off this year’s success of 325 students participating on the day.
They both believe that celebrating a healthy and active lifestyle should be the focal point of the event, and getting the STARS and STEP class to bring their coffee making skills and organizing skills to the table was an added bonus.
Mrs. Piche-Swain says the purpose was to get students involved while building that Christmas atmosphere.
“Wanted to get them involved and create the Christmas atmosphere and to organize a big event. So we have 325 students here today and we wanted them to prepare everything with our help and our lead.”
Mrs. Dagenais says they want their students to continue to volunteer in their community going forward, and this is a great start.
“Its important that our students have an opportunity to participate in activites like this and see it through, because when they become adults and they are out in the community living on their own we want them to go and volunteer and be involved in activities like this, so they can stay involved in the community.”
The teachers both say that they wanted to thank their staff members for their wonderful work, their generous sponsors for giving so much to the event.
