Two Quebec Locals Arrested Following Attempted Robbery

Police have officially closed their investigations on an attempted theft in Kapuskasing.

The OPP James Bay Detachments responded to an attempted theft at a local business along Government Road in Kapuskasing around 4:30pm Friday.

Media Officer Stephanie Belec says police arrived on scene and arrested one suspect, a woman, before another suspect fled from police into a wooded area behind the Walmart parking lot.

Belec says police investigation has revealed the suspect was in possession of firearms.

She says multiple OPP units were assigned to the investigation, during which Government Road, which becomes Highway 11, was closed between Gurney Road and Clear Lake Road as several different businesses including Walmart and Dollar Tree were evacuated.

Belec says the second suspect, a man, was eventually located and arrested.

She says the 21-year-old woman and 21-year-old man are both from Sainte-Marie, Quebec.

The woman has been arrested on 11 charges, including four counts of theft under $5000.

Meanwhile 12 charges have been laid on the man including possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

Both accused are set to appear in Cochrane Court on December 10th.
