UPDATE: Police Arrest Two After Hold And Secure Near Walmart

Police have arrested a pair of people involved in an attempted robbery.

The OPP James Bay Detachments responded to an attempted theft at a local business along Government Road in Kapuskasing around 4:30pm today.

Media Officer Stephanie Belec says police arrived on scene and arrested one suspect, a woman, before another suspect fled from police into a wooded area behind the Walmart parking lot.

Belec says police investigation has revealed the suspect was in possession of firearms.

She says multiple OPP units were assigned to the investigation, during which Government Road, which becomes Highway 11, wa closed between Gurney Road and Clear Lake Road as several different businesses including Walmart and Dollar Tree were evacuated.

Belec says the second suspect, a man, was eventually located and arrested.

The OPP have since re-opened Highway 11.

Belec says there is no longer a threat to public safety. The investigation is still ongoing and further details will be released when they become available.

OPP are now allowing traffic through along Highway 11 after seizing the suspect following a hold and secure at the Kapuskasing Walmart.
Police say that the hold and secure is now lifted as the suspect is under arrest.
Traffic is now moving slowly with a lot of backup along Highway 11 at this time.
ORIGINAL STORY:
OPP is on scene just off of Highway 11 and have evacuated both the Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree stores under a Hold and Secure order at this time due to a current ongoing pursuit of a suspect.
 
The OPP is not allowing anyone to travel eastbound or westbound past the Wal-Mart in order to make sure that they can close off the area.
 
Police have stated there is a public safety risk so they ask you to stay away from the area around plaza.
 
Due to the fact that they have turned vehicles around we have not been allowed near the scene at this time.
