Pair of Highway 11 Communities No Longer Recycling Plastic Bags

A pair of communities along the Highway 11 corridor are making changes to their accepted recycling materials.

The township of Fauquier-Strickland and the town of Smooth Rock Falls have announced that plastic bags have been banned from recycling.

The township of Fauquier-Strickland has stated that currently there is nowhere to ship the plastic materials and therefore they have accumulated tons of plastic with nowhere to put it.

The township also makes reference to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan’s decision to ban plastic bags, saying that it is not just affecting their town, but rather this is a global issue.

Fauquier-Strickland’s facebook statement also says that until the recycling factories and brokers can accept plastic bags, they will ask residents to throw plastic in the trash, or reuse them if possible.
