Collège Boréal Students And Staff Doing Humanitarian Work Here And Abroad

Twelve students and six staff members of Collège Boréal’s three campuses are embarking on humanitarian work, in their communities and in a foreign country.

Timmins Campus Manager of Post-Ssecondary Programs Melanie Dufresne says projects are planned in Kapuskasing, Timmins and Sudbury, before the entire group leaves for Central America.

“In Timmins, we’ve linked up with the Yo Mobile before Christmas to do a Christmas dinner for the clients of the Yo Mobile on December 7th, so we’ll be serving over 150 people on that Friday.”

Then from April 26th to May 6th, the entire group will be in the Central American country of Guatemala. They’ll work with the organization “The God’s Child Project”. Among their work will be building cinderblock houses.

“We’ll be building three homes for very needy families over there, as well as working with schools, the hospital for malnourished babies, the homeless shelter and as well as doing a food distribution for the moms.”

The group members are doing their own fundraising, and hoping for donations through the Giving Tuesday web page.
