Hearst Recycling Program Tripling Their Intake

Hearst’s new recycling program has seen its recycling triple.

Back in March the town decided to further encourage residents to reduce waste and recycle by beginning to provide curbside collection of blue boxes for the first time.

The town has since released stats showing that they have more than tripled their recycling intake from roughly 11 tons per month to 35 tons since the program began.

Senior By-Law Officer Tammy Coulombe says materials such as paper, cardboard, cans and some plastics, except bags, can be deposited.

There have been some criticisms, including the fact that the program does not accept plastic bags despite them being recyclable.

Coulombe has said the reason for that is it is not profitable in the end for the town.

Further details on the program can be found here.
