DSB ONE Introduces Newest Superintendent

DSB ONE’s Board of Trustees has introduced Kristen Niemi as its newest Superintendent.

Niemi’s appointment follows the retirement of former Superintendent Michelle Leigh.

Board Chair Bob Brush says Niemi will serve the Board’s Northern family of schools as well as parts of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Learning and Teaching portfolio.

Brush says they are pleased to announce her promotion.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Kristen Niemi to the position of Superintendent-Northern Region. We are confident that Ms. Niemi will exceed our expectations.”

Niemi, who was born and raised in Iroquois Falls, brings 19 years of experience in education to the position, having served as a teacher, vice-principal and principal at various schools in North Bay, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane.

Director of Education Lesleigh Dye says she was the top candidate from a highly skilled field.

“Ms. Niemi was selected from a field of outstanding candidates due to her demonstrated leadership capabilities, commitment to serving our students and their families, and her deep understanding of our district.”

Niemi says she looks forward to continuing her work with students, families and staff in the Northern region.
