Espace Hearst Sees Cost Increase, Slight Location Change

Espace Hearst will cost an extra $100,000 more than originally planned.

Hearst has announced that their previous proposal, which was approved back in August by council of $860,000, will see an increase in cost and a slight change in location from the south-west lot of Town Hall to the southeast side.

Council has stated the reason for the location switch is to give the municipality an option to expand Town Hall further in the future.

Meanwhile, the extra expenses have been listed by council as options, which include security cameras, tables, chairs, accessible ramps, etc.

Espace Hearst will accommodate smaller events at a maximum capacity of 300 people and will also be versatile enough to handle both summer and winter conditions.

Hearst has a budget of $1,020,000 for the project thanks to the NOHFC and FedNor having both funded $459,035 towards the project in grants, and the municipality will cover the final $102,007 over the next two years.

Council estimates that the average deficit for the building will come to just over $1,000 a year.

The total cost of the project is estimated at roughly $960,000 total.
