UPDATE: OPP Lifts Hold And Secure On Kapuskasing Schools

UPDATED:

Several schools were put under hold and secure in Kapuskasing this morning.

The OPP contacted all schools within the Kapuskasing community Tuesday asking them to assume a Hold and Secure type situation, involving students remaining in class.

Coeur du Nord Secretary Julie Dagenais says the call came in at 9:50am advising that all schools need to be in a hold and secure situation.

Dagenais says staff and students were told to remain within their classrooms and go on about their classes as usual.

Provincial Constable Stephanie Belec says the OPP responded to a potential threat in the Kapuskasing area, shortly after, police recommended that all schools in town go under a hold and secure procedure due to an ongoing situation outside of, but not related to the school.

Belec says because of this they decided to take the precautionary step for all area schools to be on the lookout.

The OPP says the hold and secure was lifted around 11:00am and parents are being told by automated phone calls from the school of updates regarding the situation.

Currently an OPP investigation into the matter is ongoing.
