The first week of October will be about encouraging healthy babies through breastfeeding.

The town of Kapuskasing has decided to name this week as World Breastfeeding Week in Kapuskasing from October 1st to 5th after a request from the Porcupine Health Unit.

CAO Guylain Baril says it is another opportunity for council to support a great cause.

“Council sees this as a good cause to support, it is the right thing to do and we believe in these types of causes. So hopefully the community can follow suit and join us in support.”

Baril says encouraging breastfeeding leads to the encouraging of healthier babies, so it was an easy decision to say yes.

The official World Breastfeeding Week takes place annually from August 1st through 7th.
