OPP Begin Fall Seat Belt Campaign

Police are reminding you of the importance to buckle up.

The OPP is having a Fall Seat Belt Campaign this week to educate residents on the laws and safety features of a seat belt.

Provincial Constable Stephanie Belec says if you are caught not wearing your seat belt you can be fined up to $240 and also two demerit points.

Belec says demerit points stay on your driving record for two years and it is not just the driver that can face those fines.

She says if a passenger is under the age of 16 and without a seat belt, the driver can be charged.

Belec says seat belts save lives and you should wear one at all times.

Officers will be running seat belt spot checks throughout the region until Friday, October 5th.
