Val Rita-Harty Looking To Win $10,000 Towards Community Kitchen

Val Rita-Harty is looking to win some upgrades to its community centre kitchen.

The town has entered the Aviva Community Fund Collective Kitchen Project for 2018, a challenge to win $10,000 by being voted one of the best 50 Small Ideas that bring people in the community together.

Administrative Assistant Sylvie Pominville says the town is looking to create a community kitchen through upgrading their current.

Pominville says the purpose of the project is to try and bring the community closer.

“It is to provide new life for the community centre and in a sense it is to bring the community members together, and to bring community members together towards a common goal, and encouraging people to participate.”

She says if they are chosen as winners, the prize money will go to a lot of improvements to their community kitchen.

“It is mostly to renovate the kitchen. So there needs to be a new water heater, a proper dishwasher, we are also looking at purchasing some basic kitchen equipment and also possibly as stove.”

Aviva, a multinational insurance company, is in its 10th year of the project, having donated over $8.5 million over that span to Canadian communities.

Pominville says the voting stage, which is currently ongoing from September 25th until October 4th, can see anyone vote up to 10 times total for their favourite idea.

Val Rita-Harty’s idea has currently received 152 votes as of last check.
