House Fire Injures No One, Damages Building

A house fire in Kapuskasing has injured no one but severely damaged one building.

Last night fire crews arrived on scene to Cedar Street around 7:30pm due to a call for a gas leak, within an hour after arriving and leaving crews were then called to a structure fire on Lang Street.

Fire Chief Pat Kennedy says the firefighters were able to limit the damage of the structure fire to one building, which was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Kennedy says they were able to quickly quiet the fire down, but it did take a while due to the building and fuel load to extinguish the flames completely.

He says the other buildings, which sat very close together to the source of the fire, did not sustain any burn damage, but did end up with some smoke and water damage from the flames.

He wanted to thank the OPP, EMS, Union gas and Northern Ontario Wires for their support while on scene.

Currently the investigation is still ongoing into the cause of the fire.
