Local Organizations Teaming Up To Teach Residents Further Food Skills

Experts on gardening are meeting in Kapuskasing to discuss how to improve your diet through canning food.

The Porcupine Health Unit, Kapuskasing Horticultural Society, the Centre de sante de Kapuskasing et region and the Kapuskasing Diabetes Education Centre have teamed together to present a series of workshops regarding healthy eating.

PHU Public Health Dietitian Joelle Zorzetto says food skills and literacy are important pillars of healthy eating. She says the workshop will help people expand their preparation skills, and food safety.

Dietitian with the Centre de Sante and Kapuskasing Diabetes, Karine Dupuis, says canning is done to preserve food, so you can enjoy vegetables and fruits of the summer and fall through the winter.

The workshops will be in both French and English and take place on Monday, September 24th and Tuesday, September 25th at 6:30pm at the Centre de Sante.
