Highway 11 Piping Work Underway

Work has begun to replace piping along Highway 11.

Manager of Public Works Eric Cote says they are trying to get all of their storm, sanitary and water piping into the ground before it freezes.

Cote says this will be what is taking place through the next few months until the winter time.

He says currently they are placing storm drains on the south side of the highway, before they will move across.

“What is going on right now is were putting in the storm piping, which is on the track side, or south side of the highway. Were putting in our storm piping and once that is completed we will do our full excavation of the south side, get that ready for asphalt. At that point we will shift our traffic to basically the south side and move everything to the north side where we will begin our water and sanitary piping.”

Cote says the project is phased in, and this is being done to eliminate some traffic.

“It is phased in. We’re building this so there’s not as many as traffic delays. Obviously what you are seeing right now is we are down to one lane for the duration of the day, and that’s to allow for the work to go on, and it will be very similar to that for the remainder of the project.”

He says the intent is also to have a layer of asphalt on before winter is to hit, so the plan is to have things paved before moving forward.

Cote says assuming that the weather holds up, and they have things go according to plan, he estimates the project could be completed by November.

He says so far in the early stages signs are good, but residents need to be aware that they have to account for the extra time it will take to travel that section of the highway.
