Hearst Residents Asked To Keep Eye Out For Bears

Residents of Hearst are being told to be on the watch for bears.

The OPP’s James Bay Detachments and members of the Hearst detachment are warning community members based off of several recent sightings throughout the town.

Provincial Constable Stephanie Belec says they are attracted to food left outside, including grease on barbecues, and even food from bird feeders and fruit trees.

Belec says police ask that any garbage bins are placed inside sheds or garages.

She says to report a bear issue call 1-866-514-2327 and in an emergency call 911.
