Council Approves Three Separate Policy Revisions

Kapuskasing council is making some small changes to three separate policies with cannabis legalization looming.

Council approved revisions for three policies; Fit for Duty, Smoking in the Workplace and the Mobile Device policy.

CAO Guylain Baril says with the legalization of cannabis just over a month away, a review of the workplace policies was a must.

“The Smoking Policy and the Fit for Duty policy, the reason we are reviewing those two is with the introduction of cannabis becoming legal in October we needed to review our policies.”

Baril says there are no major changes in policy, but some definite adjustments regarding marijuana.

“There’s no big changes other than making provisions for the legalization of marijuana, before it would have been prohibited in every sense of the word. Now our policies need to account for the fact it will be legal to consume recreational cannabis; I guess you could think of it the same as alcohol, not allowed at work, but you have policies in place just in case it does.”

He also says use of personal devices in the workplace will be seen less due to changes with the Mobile Device policy guidelines.
