Flyers Cap Off Perfect Weekend With 4-0 Shutout Victory

First start, first shutout, not a bad beginning for Cochrane native Joshua Dubeault, and a perfect opening for the Kapuskasing Flyers.

Sunday saw the Flyers cap off their back-to-back games in Sudbury versus the Nickel Capital Wolves with a 4-0 shutout victory thanks to a solid performance in all facets of the game, including a two-point game from Brendan Aubertin.

In the opening frame, the Flyers once again jumped out to a lead, scoring less than five minutes into the game when Aubertin buried his second goal in as many days on a sweet wrister to the top shelf to put his side infront.

Following the opening marker, the Flyers gained their first man advantage of the afternoon and quickly deposited their third powerplay goal in just their fifth chance on the season thanks to Blaine Boisseneault’s first of the new year on a point shot through plenty of netfront traffic.

The Flyers carried the two-goal lead into the second where they would add on with their first goal of the new campaign from a new player, as Carlo Smokowich Jr. buried his first of the season unassisted on a loose puck in the slot just past the midway point of the period.

In the third and final frame, Kapuskasing put things to rest when Captain Alex Lapointe scored his first of the year following a pretty nifty display of deking in tight against the Wolves defence.

The Flyers ended the game 1 for 4 on the PowerPlay and a perfect 6 for 6 killing penalties to keep their perfect penalty killing numbers intact.

Kapuskasing now sets its sights a week ahead to a pair of games Saturday and Sunday once more on the road this time against the Soo Thunderbirds, before then returning to Kapuskasing for their Home Opener against their rivals the Timmins Majors at the Sports Palace Arena Tuesday, September 18th with puck drop set for a special afternoon time of 12:30pm local.
